The South African Natural Vinegar Manufacturers Association was formed to guard the interest of its members and to promote the use of naturally fermented vinegar in food.

In order to help consumers distinguish between natural vinegar and chemically produced acetic acid, S.A.N.V.A. requires a natural vinegar seal to be displayed on the label of all vinegars which conforms to the specifications laid down by the association.

The seal is available free of charge to all manufacturers of products which contains Naturally Fermented Vinegar.

The Virtues of Vinegar

Being a product that has been around for centuries isn't always easy. While this enduring lifecycle is certainly proof of appeal of vinegar, there is plenty of opportunity for misconception about vinegar to develop.

If it says "Vinegar" then it is "Vinegar"

No misconception here! Or at least there shouldn't be. But there is something more you should know.

Although South African food laws determine that acetic acid may not be labeled as vinegar, some unethical bottlers will fraudulently substitute diluted acetic acid and offer it as naturally fermented vinegar.

Natural Vinegars:

Since they are naturally fermented they contain natural trace elements and nutrients derived from the raw materials source which are good for your health.

South African Natural Vinegar Manufacture Association To protect consumers and distinguish natural fermented vinegar from the synthetic alternative, S.A.N.V.A. has established a seal which appears on the labels of most bottles of naturally fermented vinegar.
